Löwchen in Agility
 |
For whatever reason, when Löwchen first arrived in America, the Companion events in the sport of dogs were completely ignored. No one thought of a Löwchen as a competitor in any event other than Conformation. |
| That all changed in 2000 when Barbara Cecil, a highly respected Obedience and Agility trainer and author, choose a Löwchen puppy specifically for Companion Sports. Because of Barbara's enthusiasm and success with her Löwchen, Pistil Pete, more and more agility enthusiasts are turning to Lowchen for competition. | |

Agility is a combination of physical speed, suppleness, and skill, three traits that are inherent in the Löwchen. While physically and mentally suited for the sport of Agility, a Lowchen excels in the sport if certain training procedures are followed. Being quick learners, Löwchen have a tendency to become bored with repetitive training. If you recognize this trait and vary the training to keep it fun and interesting to your Löwchen, you can go far. Another trait of the Löwchen is loyalty to its owner and they can be devastated if they think they have caused displeasure. With this in mind, it is extremely important to train with positive reinforcement and never by discipline. |
| To compete successfully in Agility the dog needs to be physically, mentally, and emotionally sound, with a strong play and prey drive. A Löwchen has all these attributes plus they can maintain their competitive edge for many years not burning out at four or five. | |
